About

My current body of work, Unraveling, is hallmarked by unweaving stretched canvases and reimagining them without the addition of adhesives. I began ripping canvases in 2013 to explore complex ideas and process grief. The marks that I make on the canvases are inspired by landscapes, abstract concepts and social interactions. I utilize acrylic and oil paint to lay down ideas and feelings, both before and after unraveling the canvas.

Through the deconstruction of the canvas material, I investigate the world around me and explore how beauty evolves while unraveling. The unweaving process was inspired by a quote from Sir Thomas Browne’s Religio Medici, “There is no deformity but in Monstrosity; wherein, notwithstanding, there is a kind of Beauty; Nature so ingeniously contriving the irregular parts, as they become sometimes more remarkable than the principal Fabrick”.
